What happens if my employees fail the course?

If you registered your worker in the IRATA course, your worker has 60 days to come back and re-test. Our re-assessment fees include two extra days of training. These extra training days are optional but we strongly recommend they come back to train as a lot can be missed in the time off between the two assessments. If they don't come back within 60 days, they are required to re-do the full 5-day course. For SPRAT courses, there is no timeline to come back, but the sooner they come back, the better. If too much time lapses between, a lot of skills can be forgotten.

Should my employees do IRATA or SPRAT?

This choice depends on your company's goals, your clients' preferences, what industry your company operates within, and what provincial jurisdiction is followed. For example, in Alberta, many industries using rope access are partial to IRATA due to IRATA's strict regulations and guidelines.  In BC, the provincial regulation states both IRATA and SPRAT are equally acceptable. Many high rise companies will lean towards SPRAT because this allows their employees to upgrade faster and eventually, they will have Level 3 Supervisors on staff quicker than going through the IRATA system. For more information on the pro's and con's for each certification, click below.

How long are the courses? What do they involve?

All our courses are a week long. They involve 4 days of training and a 1-day IRATA assessment or SPRAT evaluation or both (if you sign your workers up for both). Depending on the week, our IRATA and SPRAT evaluations may happen on the same day or different days. We can accommodate this to your team's schedule if need be. For example, if training lands on a week where the assessment is on a Saturday, but you can't pay OT for an employee to be there on Saturday, we can reschedule them to a different week where it lands on a Friday. What is a logbook and why should I care about them?

If you plan to enroll your current workers into their L1 IRATA or SPRAT, once successful in their assessments, they will receive an IRATA or SPRAT logbook. The purpose of the logbook is to record all rope access hours and work experience that they will need to present to their Assessor or Evaluator when you want them to upgrade to the next level. This logbook must be maintained and filled correctly or their hours may be disqualified. Usually, a L3 rope access technician needs to sign off on the hours but if you don't have one on staff, a Manager or Owner can sign off. Here is more information on how to sign off on hours and what logbooks need to look like in order to be eligible for upgrades.

Employee Logbooks

For the past 7 years, our company has dealt exclusively with Pacific Ropes for rope access training, both for entry level certification and for re-training and levelling up experienced staff. Not only have they been instrumental to our success, but they also have been a strategic ally, creating a strong rope access community and offering support to our company, and our staff, through additional training and certifications that helped us elevate our level of safety and professionalism. Their flexibility with scheduling trainings, and the frequency at which the trainings are offered, ensured that our staff were always able to train or re-train when needed. The trainers and staff's willingness to help and go the extra mile, and their understanding of the importance of great business relationships, will ensure that they will remain one of our key partners moving forward.

I recently had the privilege to attend a rope access course at Pacific Ropes and was very impressed by the facilities and the knowledgeable/friendly staff. The equipment was clean and maintained in addition to a relaxed atmosphere. The instructors were always willing to take additional time to explain subject matter or stay late to practice if needed. I would highly recommend Pacific Ropes to anyone looking to pick up an IRATA or SPRAT ticket while having a fun week with genuinely good people.

Fun week of learning with very knowledgeable trainers. High level of enthusiasm brought into the training. Class size was perfect , always time to have one on one discussions when needing clarification on a topic. I would recommend the course to anyone wanting to get into the field. I will be back for my level 2.
